ABOUT US
About Cherokee Lake Sailing Club
In 1978, twelve boats entered their first organized race on Cherokee Lake and thus Cherokee Lake Sailing Club was born. Two years, later an Explorer Post (Sea Scouts) was organized. The following year, sailing classes were offered at the local community college. Through the years, a consistent racing program was established and a monthly newsletter knitted the group together.
Today, Cherokee Lake Sailing Club is located at Black Oak Marina and it offers members a variety of activities on the water as well as other fun social events. From their active racing program to laidback cruises, day and overnight raft-ups, and cookouts at the club pavilion on the sailboat dock.
These are a group of serious racers and serious entertainers!
Owning a sailboat is not required for membership and participation in Cherokee Lake Sailing Club. The club offers two types of
membership: Regular Membership for boat owners and the Associate Membership for non-boat owners.
The club operates a club pavilion which is located on the sailboat dock. This is a relaxing place where we gather prior to and after our
races. We also hold cookouts and other social activities there right on the dock.
Come out and visit Cherokee Lake Sailing Club and meet their members. Easy to spot from the parking lot by
their tall masts, they are located in Black Oak Marina right below Off the Hook restaurant.
“GREAT EXPERIENCE!”
Cherokee Lake Sailing Club is so much fun – whether participating in our racing program, going out for casual cruises or just gathering at the club pavilion for dock parties with a fun group of folks.
“WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS!”
We would love to share our beloved sailing sport with you. Come visit at the dock & see what sailing is all about!
“SO BEAUTIFUL!”
Cherokee Lake is the premier location in East Tennessee for a day of sailing. It is the pristine lake due to its width that enables a sailor to take advantage of various points of sail.
There is currently dock space through Black Oak Marina if you are interested in a berth for your boat. We gather at our club pavilion for club events, as well as holding activities at Off The Hook Restaurant located in the marina.
